QuestionHello SNW,
I've been growing my Nepenthes in in water trays for a while now. Each tray is filled with tap water. I've recently read that these plants should have really good drainage which means my plants shouldn't be sitting in water. Now I'm worried that there is a big mineral buildup in the pots. What would you recommend me do to clean out the minerals? Also, after that, what should I do with the trays, add pebbles?
AnswerHi Taylor,
There's nothing to worry about. Nepenthes are quite tolerant of hard water as long as the water drains through completely. The easiest method to flush out excess minerals is to pour distilled water over the soil and let the water drain through the pot. After that, grow your Nepenthes like you would a regular houseplant. Find a suitable sunny window and top water it when the soil begins to lose moisture.
