Nepenthes Ventricosa Pitcher

Question
Hi SN!
I now have had my N. Ventricosa for 3 days. It came with 2 pitchers, and one was open. The other one was closed, which I'm thinking happened because of the shock from environment change. The open pitcher was empty of digestive juices, so I filled it only with a little of distilled water which I heard was okay to do. Yesterday, when I came home I found that my Nepenthes had caught a small fly. But today when I came back home, I found that the pitcher's leaf was slowly beginning to close again. This morning when I checked the leaf was open. What might the leaf closing problem be related too? TY SN!
Sincerely, Tony

Answer
Hi Tony,

Since you've just acquired your plant, you'll need to give it time to acclimate to its new surroundings.  The opening and closing of the lid in this case is related to humidity.  As the humidity fluctuates throughout the day, the lid will open (high humidity) and close (low humidity).  When your plant if fully acclimated to fluctuating humidity, the pitchers will remain open.

Good growing!
