drosera hibernaculum

Question
Is it possible to propagate an american drosera by separating its hibernaculum?

Answer
Hi Fishboy,

Yes, this process is called division.  However, you'll need to make sure that you actually have two separate resting buds or hibernacula.  A hibernaculum is a single resting bud, and you can't divide that.  During the growing season, another plantlet will grow from the mother plant.  When the plants go dormant, then you'll end up with multiple resting buds.

In early spring, you can unpot your plant and separate multiple buds.  The process is very straight forward and easy to do.

Good growing!
