Cepalothus

Question
hello there. Today I got my very first Cepalothus follicularis, it's 6 cms in diameter and it's GREEN. So when I went to your website I saw that all adult cephs are redish or brown and I was wondering if you could tell me something more about their colour and maybe subpecies. Is it true that there are several subspecies of cephs or I'm wrong...

Answer
Hi Fran,

Cephalotus has variants, such as "Hummers Giant", but it is a monotypic genus.  Just like Venus flytraps, only one species.

The light green color is from low light.  If given brighter light it will darken.  Introduce it to brighter conditions slowly, however.  Without knowing how the plant was being grown, you could easily burn it.

Good Growing!
