QuestionHey, thanks for the help with my last question.
OK, besides some VFT I also have a Purple Pitcher (which is gaining some of it's natural purple color after I got it completely green from Lowe's). One of the pitchers are large and if it would be in the wiled would be able to catch rain water, however some of the younger pitchers are either not as opened as the main one or have the top of the leaf acting as a hood. I wanted to know if it is OK to give these younger pitchers water to help catch any incests and also if it is OK to feed them (incests, fish food, etc.) even though the hoods would be not allowing a lot, if any, water in it in the wild.
Also some of the plant's purple color is coming in patches and others in veins, is this normal for the purple pitcher?
AnswerHi Remag,
It's fine to put water in the pitchers. That would happen from rain anyway. Feeding a small amount of insects is fine also.
Be sure your not confusing the closed hoods on pitchers as ones that simply haven't opened up yet. It would damage them if you try to open them before they finish developing. Also some S. purpurea just have more closed pitchers than others. The S. purpurea var. montana is like that.
Good Growing!
