Question1. I recently repotted a N rajah. Its a fairly young plant, leaves only 2-3" long. My question is if it is detrimental to the plant if I planted the majority of its woody stem (about 2" of it) under the soil so its leaves would be flush with the top of the soil? By woody stem I mean the stem that develops buy continuously cutting off dead leaves.
2. When would be the right time to harvest the seeds of a S purpurea. I cross pollinated S purpurea var montana x S orephila and it took. Im really excited about this hybrid!
AnswerHi Stephen,
1. That's fine to bury the stem a little deeper. The plant will sometimes develop roots on the stem.
2. You'll be able to tell when it's time to collect seeds. The seedpod on Sarracenia turns brown, then cracks open. For here in Oregon it usually happens in early October. That hybrid should yield some spectacular plants.
Good Growing!
