QuestionIs it possible to grow a lowland nepenthes hybrid (rafflesiana / ampullaria) outside of a terrarium? If so, what should I do that is different from growing highland varietals? Thanks.
AnswerHi Itai,
Many will, but it is dependent on your home conditions. Warm temperatures, temps not dropping below 70 degrees F., are a big factor. You would just need to experiment. I've had good success with lowland N. truncata, and some with N. rafflesiana, but zero success with N. bicalcurata and N. ampullaria is houseplants. It's just not warm enough for them, and they really like the extra humidity. I discovered last year, that it isn't the humidity (as usually the case), but the temperature that was important for some lowlanders. We had a larger Nepenthes bicalcurata in our greenhouse with very humid conditions, but they couldn't endure drops to the 50's at night.
Good Growing!
