Question
Cape Sundew
Hi Allexperts,
I brought this sundew from you, and I'm wondering if I should put it outside or should it continue to occupy my window sill, which isn't getting much light? What type of light can I get away with, that won't hurt the plant. The plant is also near vent that is putting cold air into the room.
I have a spot on my deck in mind in between flower pots that should cut down on the light strength. I have a nepenthes there right now and it looks fine. Is this do able for the plant. I live in USDA zone 7. I have picture upload on this e-mail.
Sincerely,
Weylin
AnswerHi Weylin,
Any sunny windowsill that receives several hours of direct sunlight and bright indirect light throughout the rest of the day will work just fine. Since you just got your plant, you'll need to give it a couple weeks to acclimate to its new growing conditions before you determine whether or not the lighting is sufficient.
You can also grow your plant outdoors for the rest of the summer. However, in fall when the nighttime temperature starts to drop in the low 50s, you'll need to move your tropical plants indoors. When you do this, your plant will need another couple weeks or so to acclimate to indoor growing. Since fall is officially only a month away, I'd recommend to grow the plant indoors.
