outdoor plants for Dallas TX

Question
I keep finding different answers on the web to the one question I have and that is:
Can I grow CP in my zone 8, hot and dry summer, Arlington TX garden and keep them out year round?

Answer
Hi Cheryl,

Yes, Yes, and Yes.  You actually have a colony of Sarracenia alata that grows not far from Dallas, and I know that a few Sundew species grow in your area.

The plants I'm speaking of are the North American species such as Sarracenia, Venus flytraps and North American Sundews.  The only extra precautions I would take is to do more top-watering of your plants during extended periods of 100 degree weather.  This helps to keep the soil more aerated since it can get very hot in pots.  Using light-colored pots helps also.  The only species that won't do well would include Darlingtonia, and some of the Northern sundews such as D. rotundifolia and D. anglica.  Visit our website caresheets for more information at:  http://www.cobraplant.com/caresheets

Good Growing!
