QuestionHey SNW,
I was looking for a nepenthes that has pretty compact growth so that I could keep it in my terrarium. I live around San Jose, which is in zone 9. The terrarium is near a south facing windowsill and I have to say that it can get pretty heated, but not too much-usually around 85 F. Don't worry, I know all about the downsides in keeping a terrarium. In fact, I currently growing plants such as cephalotus and sundews in there. Do you think, with seasonal changes, that I could keep an Ampullaria there?
AnswerHi Taylor,
Good terrarium candidates would include N. ventricosa, N. ampullaria, N. gracilis (if you keep it cut back) and any others that are small growers. N. ampullaria does very well in terrariums.
Be careful in having a terrarium next to a window. Temperatures can build up very quickly in sunny spots and cook plants. That is why we always recommend artificial light. It is more reliable and not dangerous.
Good Growing!
