Question
My flava
Hi Jacob/Jeff -
This question is about my sarracenia flava. The first few spring pitchers right now, are the tallest of all pitchers produced. The most recent new growth comes up to about 2/3 to 1/2 the size of the first pitchers. Is this normal, or are they supposed to be identical in height throughout the whole season. Because I thought tey would get taller than this.
Sun - Full
Water - Distilled
Soil - 50/50 Peat Moss/Perlite Mix
AnswerHi Ted,
That's very normal. Those small pitchers will be follow by a group of phyllodia, which are non-carnivorous leaves. This is S. flava and S. oreophila's normal growth pattern. Both are early season growers as opposed to a plant like S. leucophylla where the best pitchers are produced late summer and fall.
Good Growing!
