Question
Typical or Copper Top?
I had ordered a yellow trumpet (medium) from you, and was just wondering it almost looks like a copper top, when grown in full sun. Is this a typical or copper top yellow trumpet. I am just wondering if you sent me a different plant, (not that I have a problem with that). Thanks!
AnswerHi Ted,
That's most likely a copper top. Because there's a lot of gradations of copper top and red vein, we no longer distinguish the different varieties unless they have characteristics consistent with plants in our private collection. So the lesser grades of copper top and red vein are placed with the common stock. There have also been a few red tubes thrown in there because they weren't red enough to justify being called red tube. In early spring, it's the luck of the draw. As they produce mature pitchers, our local customers usually snag them pretty quickly.
Good growing!
