QuestionHi! I've bought a small nepenthes Gracilis recently, and I've
heard that the plants need high humidity to pitcher. Is it
true? I live in Asia, and I grow all my nepenthes outdoors. So
will my Nepenthes Gracilis be fine outdoors?
AnswerHi Tan,
Nepenthes gracilis is native Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. So if you live in this part of Asia, you can certainly grow it outdoors throughout the year. If you grow all of your other Nepenthes outdoors throughout the year, you should be able to this species outdoors too.
Keep in mind that the phrase "high humidity" is relative and is a phrase mostly used among growers who live outside of the plant's natural habitat. Since you can grow Nepenthes outdoors throughout the year, I'm going to assume that you live in a truly tropical climate. In this case, you don't have to worry about humidity the same way someone living in the United States, like myself, has to.
