Questioni've recently transplanted my sarracenia's into much larger and taller pots, i've upped the soil mixture to 2.5 parts peat moss to 1 part perlite because the bowls i have for the 16inch pots only go about 1/3 of the way up the pot. i did this to allow the soil to keep a little more mosture because the water levels aren't quite as high on the pots. do u see any problems with this in the future?
AnswerHi Darren,
In general, it's best to err on the side of too much perlite than too much peat moss. We use large pots for plants in our private collection, and we keep the water level about 1/4 of the way up the pot. Despite this, we still use 1:1 ratio. Aeration is vital for a healthy plant, so there's a risk of the soil going foul quicker if the peat content is too high. Watch our video for April care:

You'll see a quick clip of plants in large square pots. Those are plants in our private collection. Even our bathtub bog garden is in the standard mix, and it's not even sitting in water! We simply top water it whenever we're working in the nursery.
Good growing!
