QuestionI made my 2nd batch of potting mix which is sphagnum
peatmoss, play sand, and now some pumice. (the 1st batch
didnt have pumice) and the plant is in a plastic pot in a
bigger plastic pot without wholes and has 1-2 inches of
distileld water in it. My plants seem to be doing fine (but
i dont have anything to compare it to so it might be only
doing ok for all i know). I know ive heard its a bog plant
not an aquatic plant, so when you feel the soil how wet
should it be..i know its kind of hard for you guys to
describe, but like if i were to take a pinch of the
dirt..should it be dripping a little..or shoud i add more
pumice and/or sand?
AnswerHi Matt,
As long as the soil is moistened throughout, it'll be fine to use. The pot will be sitting in water anyway, so it doesn't matter how wet the soil is, as long as it's moistened from the start. Over the past three weeks, I went through 600 gallons of soil, so I can assure you that I didn't pay attention to the moisture content. I was only concerned that the soil was moist enough to work with.
Good growing!
