Judith Hindle-repotting

Question
QUESTION: Hi!

I got my Judith Hindle and dvd in the mail and I must say my plant looks very pretty and healthy for a dormant one! I just wanted to ask if it's necessary for me to repot my plant right now and my other question would it be all right to use a typical kitchen cermaic bowl to fill with water until I get a plastic saucer?

Thanks for the service and the plant!
Daniel

ANSWER: Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your recent purchase, and thank you for your kind comments.  Before sending out the plants, I inspected the soil, and it seemed fine.  With proper care, the plant will be fine in that pot for another year.  If the bowl is glazed ceramic, then it's perfectly suitable for the plant.  You can continue to use it if the plastic saucer doesn't quite live up to your sense of aesthetics.

Good growing!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I just had two quick follow up questions. During dormancy, how much is the typical amount of water to leave in the saucer for a sarracenia? And also how much does one leave for this time of year during the waking up process? I have about half an inch to maybe close to an inch right now.

Thanks!

Answer
The amount of water you leave in the saucer depends on the over wintering technique you're using.  Lets address that issue when it's time for winter dormancy.  For now, focus on giving your plant lots of sunlight and water.  Keep the water level no higher than half way up the pot.

Good growing!
