QuestionI just got a Pinguicula Primuliflora at Lowes a month ago, and it is putting up a flower stalk. I want to harvest the seeds, but I don't know how to pollinate it! How do I pollinate the flowers and how do I successfully grow the seeds? I watched your video about this species, and I'm going to replant it soon and make the pot bigger, etc. but I don't know how-what to do with flowers! Its growing on an East windowsill, will be in peat:sand 1:2 soon and a 4-5 inch pot, watered a little every day with no saucer to prevent rot. Thank you for your help!
AnswerHi Aslan,
You'll need two plants to pollinate your butterwort. It's actually a difficult process, which is why I don't even do it myself. Because this particular species produces spontaneous plantlets on its leaves, you're better off harvesting those plantlets than trying to get seeds. A single adult plant can produce at least a dozen of these plantlets within a growing season.
Good growing!
