Red Leaf on Nepenthes

Question
Hi,
I Been enjoying your plants for years.
One of my Nepenthes is starting to turn red.I mean, one of the leafs is pretty
much all red the rest are green.I think it is because of its location it gets a bit
more afternoon sun than the other plants. Should I move it or just leave it
alone?
I have a pond. Do you think the pond water is ok to water the plants with? I
have Fly Traps, North American Pitchers and Nepenthes?

Thank You for your time.

Vito

Answer
Hi Vito,

Nepenthes developing red leaves is simply a sign of it getting plenty of sun.  Many species, especially N. maxima hybrids get pretty red leaves in sunny exposures.  Don't move it.  It's a good sign.

You would need to test the pond water for hardness before you would know if it was safe to use on cp or not.  It would probably be fine for Nepenthes, but you wouldn't want to use it on the others if it has a high mineral content.  Generally speaking, if the water has a total dissolved solids count 50ppm or lower, it's fine.

Good Growing!
