Question
nepenthes hamata
I have a nepenthes with red spots on the leaves. It is growing in a lot of sphagnum and the moss has really overgrown the pot. There are over four strands of moss hanging like 5-6 inches over the edge of the pot. If I were to spray my nepenthes with ortho systemic insecticide would it have any negative effects on the sphagnum?
I am also thinking of re potting this plant soon.
AnswerHi John,
Thank-you for sending the picture. That's a beautiful hamata.
The red spots are pretty normal on older leaves. The plant is so healthy there's really no need to spray unless you are seeing actual fungal patches or insects. Ortho systemic can kill sphagnum, but usually doesn't if you just try to concentrate the spray on the plant and not the moss.
Good Growing!
