RO units and Venus Flytrap feeding

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I live in Walnut Cove, NC in zone 7. My question is do most RO units have a connection where you can tie in a pipe from the house? I intend to put mine under my crawspace and tie in a cold water line and then tie in a line from the filter into a garden spicot. The only water coming out of the spicot would be purified. I just hope it's possible to do something like that. About venus's flytraps I want to know if it's possible to feed them things like slugs, snails, and earthworms. They are fleshy and the plant might react like it would if I had fed them hamburger. If they can handle it then that would be cool because I regard these critters as pests. Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Daniel,

Usually R.O. units will have just 1/2" or 1/4" rigid plastic tubing coming off them.  What you need to do is go to a good local hardware store to help you out.  Avoid Lowes or Home Depot unless you already have good knowledge of plumbing attachments.  I did this and our local True Value hardware store here in Estacada, OR was wonderful.  I was trying to rig ours to operate off of 3/4" garden hose attachments.  It took a couple diffferent adapters to make that happen, and they knew exactly what I needed.  It sounds like you are trying to do something similar.  Is your R.O. unit one with a tank, or is it like the GE Merlin that's on-demand?

On feeding the Venus flytraps, I've once in awhile given a larger flytrap a tiny slug or two, but not on a regular basis.  If the animal is too big it can cause the trap to rot.  If your plants are good and healthy, once in awhile is fine.

QUESTION: Hi,
I don't exactly know but what I'm looking at is from aquacon.com and they are called coral life II pure flo and they use cannisters. I hope this helps!

Answer
Hi Daniel,

This is pretty typical RO unit.  It has 1/4" lines.  You should be able to find whatever adapters needed to fit it.  The description says it already has the 3/4" garden hose fitting for the input water.  If you plumb it to an outdoor spigot you probably need to have a barrel or some other collection method since the output of these units is fairly small.
