My sarracenia during winter

Question
I live in Chicago,Ill and it is really cold right now. I have a pitcher plant that has all the right conditions to grow. The only thing i am not sure about is the lighting. i want it to get good lighting but its hitting the 30's and will get colder. Should i plant it outside or try to give it sunlight from my large living room window?

Answer
Hi Jeziel,

If you have just one plant, bring it indoors, but place it in a cold North window.  In other words, a sunless window.  This time of year the plant needs to be going dormant, and won't need lots of light.  If you leave the plant outside you will need to bury it under at least a foot of mulch.  Overwintering in a cool window will work just fine.  Just be sure to cut off any browning foliage, keep it moist but not waterlogged, and it's also a good idea to spray with a sulfur based fungicide.

Next spring when temperatures are staying above freezing, go ahead and put it back outside.

Good Growing!
