Do sarracenia rubra and purpurea need frost or frost protection. What are the winter requirements for flytraps, sarracenia rubra, and purpurea.

Hi Preston,

Sarracenia and flytraps are native to North America, so they can certainly tolerate frost.  However, you'll need to protect them from severe winter conditions, such as when the temperature drops below 20癋.  This is true with all temperate plants grown in containers, carnivorous or otherwise.  Since you didn't provide me with your location, I can't give you any specific recommendations on the type of winter care you'll need to do.  For general information about winter care, read our care sheets online:
