QuestionI noted that you list N. bukei and ramispina as not requiring cool nights. In particular, do you think ramispina would make it as a lowlander?
I Live in Miami FL, and have already had success with N. vogelii and gymnamphora. I got both plants at the start of summer, and they are still pitchering and growing normally, so I have had success with some "highland" Nepenthes over the hottest months in Miami.
AnswerHi Johnathan,
The terms highland and lowland are really arbitrary and do not account for individual growth habits. While both N. burkei and N. ramispina are technically highland species (originating above 1,000 feet), they are don't necessarily require strict highland conditions. While they will grow well in a typical highland setting, they also grow well in intermediate and lowland settings. This is why we indicate that these species are tolerant of cool nights, but not required, whereas lowland species are not tolerant of cool nights and ultra highland species requires it.
Good growing!
