QuestionMy miranda was starting to grow its second pitcher, and someone in my
house shut the window on the pitcher bud! its now cracked open and I dont
know what to do. It was tiny still, only a few days into growing. Needless to
say I'm very upset about this, I love that plant and I was looking forward to
another spikey pitcher. Will it repair itself, you think? Is a broken pitcher bud
salvageable?
One other question to ask while I got your attention - when is a good time to
re-pot? I got my miranda and my ventricosa from you guys this summer, and
Id like to move them to 6in pots. Is it better to do it after the winter? I live in
NY, keep them in a SW window on the sill where they get a few hours of
direct light, and water them once or twice a week.
Thank you! I love your site, you guys are great!
AnswerHi Katie,
Sorry to say this, but once a damage occurs, it's permanent. Fortunately, this particular hybrid grows relatively quickly compared to other types of Nepenthes, and you'll have lots of pitchers to enjoy by spring.
If you want to repot your plant, you can do so at any time of the year. It's usually easier in winter or when the plant has fewer pitchers than usual. So you might as well do it now since the pitcher is damaged. That way it won't matter too much if it continues to get damaged during the repotting. This plant and Nepenthes ventricosa are very forgiving of mistakes and will grow very nicely in your windowsill.
To repot your plants, use the soil mixes outlined in our care sheet:

If you can't find the soil ingredients, you can purchase a premix on our website.
Good growing!
