QuestionHI I was just wondering if I could use any flouresant light for a terrarium or a
special grow light. I was also wondering if I could grow Heliamphoras with N.
ampullarias
AnswerHi Luca,
Yes, you can use fluorescent lights with your Nepenthes. For this information, I'm going to refer you to our Nepenthes care sheet:

In regards to growing Heliamphora alongside N. ampullaria, it can be done provided that your temperatures are appropriate. Heliamphora is a mountainous plant, so it prefers cool temperatures, especially at night. N. ampullaria is a lowland forest plant, so it prefers warm temperatures. You can grow both together if your temperatures are constantly 70?80癋. The daytime temperature should remain under 85癋 for most days of the year. Very few climates around the country have these sort of temperatures, but if you are fortunate to live in one, then it's possible to grow both side by side. (The only place I've seen this occur is on the northern shores of the Big Island in Hawaii.)
Otherwise, select a plant that's best suited for your natural environment. You'll have a much easier time growing carnivorous plants.
