Seed help.

Question
My sarracenia alata had produced some seedlings and i started to statify them about 2 weeks ago and spayed them with a Garden Safe 3 in 1 fungicide. However, about 3 days ago i went to check the status of my seedling and noticed that there was green mold around them. I sprayed them with Garden safe 3 in 1 fungucide and placed them back in the fridge but the greem mold was not dissapear. The mold has some dots on the paper but has not completely cover the paper. Is this a total loss case or can i still do something else about it? I live in sourthern california if that might help in any way.

Answer
Hi Jesse,

The green substance might be algae or slime mold.  This would be consistent with the fact that they didn't go away when you sprayed them.  They are not at all affected by fungicides.

While algae or slime mold are not harmful to seeds, they might indicate that the seeds may not be fully viable.  I usually see this type of problems with seeds that are old or "empty."

In any case, I recommend changing the paper towel and spraying everything with another dose of fungicide before placing the seeds back in the refrigerator.  Only time will tell if the seeds will germinate.
