QuestionI was wondering which technique is best for transplanting a ceph into my African Violet pot without disturbing it too much. I've left my plant outdoors, but its suffering because I keep forgeting to water it (fortunately, it still is green and has a few pitchers). ALso, would I have to change the soil a little bit to wick up some water from the pot?
AnswerHi Taylor,
If you're going to transplant, then you want to use fresh soil. To minimize shock, try to keep a little ball of soil around the roots of the plant. Cephalotus tends to have long roots, so just turn the pot upside-down and pull away some of the old soil leaving some intact. Make sure your new pot is ready with fresh soil, and place the plant it it and gently push the soil around the roots. It will also help if you water the plant with a Superthrive solution. Superthrive helps plants to re-establish after transplanting. For information on soil and other information on growing Cephalotus visit: http://www.cobraplant.com/caresheets
