QuestionHello, how are you doing? I hope everything is going great there, I have just a small question about my N.Ampullaria... well I have notice my plant has stop growing as fast as use to and now is sending basals as crazy, there are so many small pitchers on the base of the stem that i can't even cut the dry ones! I know Ampullaria is the kind that will grow on a rosette pattern, still it's this slowdown on the grow of the main vine normal as the plant grow the lower pitchers?
AnswerHi Fernando,
This is very common. If you look at pictures of N. ampullaria in the wild, they form clumps. They don't climb the way other Nepenthes do. Also I've found many other species will stop putting energy into a stem when the basal shoots begin forming. Nepenthes ventricosa is an example. Sounds like your plant is doing fine.
Good Growing!
