Pitcher Plant Identification Please

Question

Pitcher Plant
I bought this pitcher plant ( see picture ) from "Target" and it was misidentified as a cobra lily. However I'm not sure what type of north American pitcher plant or hybrid this is.

Can someone please help me identify the type?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Neil,

Your plant is a Dana's Delight hybrid.  It's a common Sarracenia hybrid and a good plant for first-time growers.  Yes, the common name cobra lily is a misnomer and is used specifically with Darlingotnia californica.  It shouldn't have been used for your plant.

Kudos to you for rescuing the plant and growing it outdoors.  The plant will develop deep red pitchers when grown in full sun.  For more information about growing Sarracenia, read our care sheets at:

Good growing!
