QuestionI recently bought one of the water sundews from Sarracenia Northwest earlier this year. I live in Minnesota(in the Twin Cities) and I also bought Red Dragon Flytraps and Regular Flytraps. I had them outside and then one night it rained really hard. Both of the Flytraps are fine but the water sundew shribbled up and looks dead. I was wondering if my water sundew is dead or not. But I what I was really wondering is whether or not I cut the shribbled plant leaves or whatever like you do with flytraps and new ones will grow like flytraps or what do I do.
AnswerHi Brian,
You can definitely cut the bad leaves off. Check closely to see if your plant has aphids. If you do see aphids spray on a little insecticide such as pyrethrins right in the crown of the plant, or just wash the aphids off with water. The description sounds more like that than just damage from rain. If you need to cut the crown off the plant they will re-emerge from a stem. Also make sure the plant is down in the soil firmly in case the rain washed too much soil away.
Good Growing!
