QuestionI was wondering how I could keep a cephalotus moist enough while I'm gone on week to 2 week long trips. I'm worried that it will suffer being too dry or die from too much water as many report that the plants can root rot very quickly and die suddenly.
AnswerHi Taylor,
The easiest way to solve this problem is to plant your Cephalotus in a self-watering African violet pot. Most of the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot carry these. They are a pot with a bare ceramic insert. The lower chamber is filled with water which passes through the porous ceramic. It will keep Cephalotus just the right moisture level, and takes about two weeks to use all the water. These are not only good for vacations, but many of our customers report that they always had trouble growing Cephalotus until they started using these. They are very effective for Cephalotus, and Mexican butterworts also.
Good Growing!
