New Mexico

Question
I was talking with a friend of mine in New Mexico, and she doesn't believe that any grow there.

Do you know offhand which ones do?

Answer
Hi John,

I'm a bit confused about the nature of your question.  Are you wanting to know what types of carnivorous plants you can cultivate in New Mexico, or are you wanting to know what species of carnivorous plants are native to New Mexico?

If you're wanting to know what types of carnivorous plants you can cultivate, this would entirely depend on whether you want indoor plants or outdoor plants and the type of lighting you can provide.  To assist you with this, use the "Best Plants For You" feature on our main website.  Just answer a few short questions about your growing conditions, and you'll get a list of plants best suited for your home or garden.  Go to:

If you're wanting to know what type of carnivorous plant is native to New Mexico, this would be an aquatic bladderwort (Utricularia).  You'll find it in the mountain lakes and ponds.  It's not terribly impressive, but it is carnivorous.  It captures tiny aquatic critters.  You can find photographs of it on our care sheet page:

Good growing!
