QuestionI grow many nepenthes and other sensitive plants. My rain barrels have mosquito larvae in them but I wanted to know if it was okay to put bleach or a commercial mosquito larvae killer in the barrels? Would it hurt my plants?
AnswerHi Caleb,
Avoid using bleach. Instead, use mosquito dunks. They contain a bacteria that kills off the larvae, but is completely safe with humans, pets, birds, frogs and other wildlife. The bacteria is very specific to mosquito larvae. We use mosquito dunks regularly with our Sarracenia pools to control mosquito populations. You can find them online or at your local garden center.
Good growing!
