QuestionI have a small sundew and it doesnt seem to be producing nectar from what i can see, it's still small and it's getting new growth but i dont really see nectar. Do you know what could be wrong?
AnswerHi Josh,
Most often the lack of dew is because of low light. The dew is actually a secretion of sugar and enzymes to attract and breakdown insects. It takes a lot of energy for sundews to produce this secretion, and sundews get their energy from sunlight. If the light isn't intense enough, sundews won't have the energy required to secrete the dew.
Find a way to increase the lighting. Of course, how much light you need to provide depends on what type of sundew you have. Some require full sun (6 or more hours of direct sunligight). Others prefer partial or filtered sun.
If you don't know the species of sundews you have, peruse our care sheet section and find a photograph that best matches the sundew you have. You can also find information about lighting as well.

There are also other possibilities to what's going on with your sundew, but lack of proper lighting is the most common. So if you don't think lighting is an issue, please submit a follow up with information about how you're growing your plant, where you live and the species of sundew you're growing.
Good growing!
