Nepenthes talangensis

Question
Hi guys,

I have another question regarding highland nepenthes.  Recently I bought a pot of nepenthes talangensis and grown it under the same conditions as other highland nepenthes such as N. sibuyanesis and N. aristolochiodes and N. gymnamphora.  Among them, only the N. talangensis failed to form pitchers so far. What gives?

Chewy

Answer
Hi Chewy,

Many growers have a difficult time getting this species to produce pitchers.  What we've discovered is that it really likes damp, airy soil and slightly higher humidity and cooler temperatures than the other species you've indicated.  Even for us, it produces pitchers very infrequently.  We managed to get a really nice large pitcher on one plant, but it was the only pitcher on that plant, and it happened only once.  So far, that same plant hasn't produced another pitcher.

So just chalk it up to experience and focus on your other plants.  If you can get it to produce a pitcher, consider yourself lucky!  Not many growers have the right indoor conditions for this plant.

Good growing!
