QuestionI have seedlings about a month old,D.filiformis ssp filiformis and S. rubra ssp alabaminsis, they are currently growing in partial sunlight, I was wondering if they should be in full sunlight and any other advice you might have, this is the first time I have grown from seed.
I live in southern Ky.
Thanks
AnswerHi Greg,
Of the two, the Sarracenia is the slower growing plant, so grow the seedlings in a sunny south window for their first year. You will actually end up with a larger plant much quicker than if you grew them outdoors in full sun. When you also think about it, seedlings are usually sheltered by adult plants, so it's really OK to grow them indoors for their first year. Next spring, acclimate them to outdoor growing.
Drosera species are fairly fast growing, so you could grow them in full sun during their first year. Next year they will reach flowering maturity.
