green house

Question
I was wandering if i can keep cape sundews, lance leaf sundews, and pygmy sundews outside in a green house?

Answer
Hi Sammy,

Thank you for identifying the tropical plants you've been wanting to grow.  These plants will grow just fine in a greenhouse provided that you heat the greenhouse during the winter months.  Ideally, the night temperature should be no lower than 55癋, so depending on how cold your region is during the winter, this may or may not be economical, especially if you just want to care for a few tropical plants.

Lighting is also an important factor.  You'll need to grow your Cape sundew and pygmy sundew on the upper benches since they prefer very bright sunlight.  The lance leaf sundew should be grown on a lower bench where it can receive partial sunlight.

The pygmy sundew also likes it very warm, so during the summer months, it'll grow just fine.  You may see slower growth with your Cape sundew and lance leaf sundew during the summer since they like it a bit cooler, about 75癋.

So proper temperature maintenance is key when using a greenhouse.  You simply have to make sure it doesn't get too warm or too cold.  If you're not experienced in maintaining a greenhouse, you may find that growing these plants on a sunny windowsill in your home is much easier and enjoyable.
