QuestionHello, I have a simple or maybe no to simple question, I have a few Nepenthes on a small greenhouse and I have found a couple of medium size spiders inside (wolf spiders from Florida i believe), I have a really bad arachnophobia and I'm sure there is more spiders inside or will be more... I'm thinking to use Ortho Home Defense MAX around de inside perimeter of the greenhouse and on the corners... it's this a good idea or I should try something different to get rid of spiders and be able to enjoy my plants (I go inside of the green house with a spay can on one hand and a broom on the other and I pay more attention to the surrounding area instead of my pitcher plants)
AnswerHi Fernando,
Oh, I hate spiders too! They give me the creeps! I nearly got into a car accident because I found a spider in my car! Yes, use a broom and everything you got on them. The best thing to use is a type of pesticide that contains permethrin. Most pesticides are geared towards insects, but permethrin is effective on both spiders and insects. As always, follow the directions indicated by the manufacturer.
You can also set up a No-Pest Strip. The compounds in it is toxic to spiders too. I have several of these strips in my greenhouse. Of course, you don't want to be around the strips too long, but they're fine to use in an enclosed space as long as you limit your time in the greenhouse.
Good growing!
