Questionallright this is what happened i had a vft and a pitcher plant and they both had flowers but somehow i was wondering i accidently placed pollen from the vtf to the pitcher flower!!! what could happen plz help. :D
AnswerHi Luis,
Sorry to disappoint you, but nothing won't happen. The two plants are too different genetically to provide any viable seeds. While intergenus breeding occurs in some group of plants, such as orchids, it doesn't occur in carnivorous plants.
The most you could do is interspecies breeding, such as pollinating the flower of one Sarracenia species with another. You will also find interspecies breeding among Drosera, Pinguicula and Nepenthes.
There have been anecdotal reports of growers successfully producing seeds from a breeding of flytrap with Drosera regia, but the seedlings were too weak to survive for more than a few days. I'm not sure how true these reports are, but it does illustrate that some forms of hybrids are not viable.
Good growing!
