QuestionI am wondering if freezing temps harm (I am guessing it does not) VFT seeds prior to germination, and if frost harms seedlings after they have germinated. Thanks
AnswerHi Tim,
While Venus flytrap seeds don't require stratification, they are also not harmed by a light frost. I've never experimented with exposing the seeds to a hard freeze (below 20癋), but they should tolerate temperatures above that for brief periods of time.
Ideally, the seedlings should be protected from frost since they may not have developed the ability to endure a frost. Sometimes we lose the new growth on plants when we have an unexpected frost after a period of warm weather. So I imagine that frost will do the same to newly sprouted plants. If all possible, germinate your seeds indoors and acclimate your seedlings to outdoor growing when the risk of frost has passed.
