QuestionHi Jeff and Jacob
Happy spring -- well almost.
I know that here in the northeast real spring is at least another month off and that in general you recommend that Nepenthes feeding be reduced or cut off entirely during the winter. However........
My Nepenthes in my kitchen window seem to have started really take off producing new leaves and new pitchers. That being the case, I was thinking about starting the foliar feeding early this year, but I also don't want to 'push' the plants.
So the question is -- What are your thoughts on starting the foliar feeding of Nepenthes early when they are clearly going through a growth spurt ?
Thanks
Nicole -- still 90 miles north of NYC
AnswerHi Nicole,
Well, spring is here for us. Thank goodness! Go ahead and give your plants a foliar spray. As long as they are producing new leaves and pitchers, you can safely feed them and not worry about "pushing" them. Use an orchid fertilizer, 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. Mist your plants weekly.

Good growing!
