Question How do you keep lowland nepenthes in the winter? I want to grow them on a windowsill all year, will they die? Do I need to put them in a terrarium?
AnswerHi Brendon,
Many, although not all, do better in the warm environment of a terrarium or greenhouse. Plants such as N. ampullaria and N. bicalcurata will very much benefit from the heat and extra humidity. They don't make very good windowsill plants unless you live someplace like Florida or Hawaii.
With a terrarium, the best ones are large fish tanks that you use fluorescent shoplight over the top. This is referred to as a greenhouse tank style terrarium. In this way the plants are in their own pots. The tank should be partially covered, and the lights should be on a timer for about a 14 hour day. Keep their soil moist.
Good Growing!
