Killer flower stalk

Question
When i checked out my flower stalk in my cape sundew i Found that is weird. I'm pretty sure that tentacles with dew on them is unusual on the flower stalk since it would be a bad idea to eat your pollinators. Have you ever encountered this in the nursery and what should I do about it?

Answer
Hi Jorge,

It sounds like you are getting a mutation called vegetative apomixis.  This is when plantlets start growing on the flower stalk.  It happens frequently on Venus flytraps, especially if they've been deprived of adequate dormancy.  We've also seen it on Drosera filiformis.  I'm not surprised that it might happen on a capensis also.  If it develops fully, you can detach it and plant it.  You'll get another plant out of the deal.  It's not harmful to sundews.  Just enjoy it.  Be sure and take photos and send them to our gallery:  http://www.cobraplant.com/photogallery/

Good Growing!
