QuestionHey just wanted to know when a good time to sow seeds is in northern indiana. I want to stratify them outdoors as opposed to in the fridge. I have heard 6 weeks before the first day of spring is a good time (which is this weekend i think) but i am thinking being in zone 5 i should wait longer but im not sure how much longer. Thanks
AnswerHi Tim,
If you're going to stratifiy them outside, you need to sow them now. Sarracenia and temperate sundews need roughly two months of cold wet conditions to germinate. It's fine if they experience freezing weather also. Go to this link for information on growing Sarracenia from seed: http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=24&chapter=1
