QuestionHello, I was wondering how long it generally takes for pitchers on N. sanguinea
to fully develop and "open" for business. I've been watching one new pitcher
on my plant for about a month now, and the lid on this pitcher doesn't seem to
have fully detached yet from the base. Any comments/thoughts?
AnswerHi Thomas,
Roughly a month is about how long it takes a pitcher to develop and open. Like so many things concerning plants though, this depends much on your growing conditions. Also pitchers don't always develop uniformly. It very common for a plant that has undergone transiton to produce some malformed pitchers before producing normal ones. I had a large N. sanguinea growing in a sunny, west facing bedroom window that produced no pitchers at first when placed there. (It was put there in the winter.) In the mid spring it produced a few odd lidless pitchers, then by midsummer it was making large robust pitchers.
In short, it sounds like your plant is doing fine. Just give it time.
Good Growing!
