QuestionI have 8 VFT seeds from my VFT (which is outside hibernating-and-not-dead I hope) When should I sow them? I read they don't need stratification, but I'm afraid that if I plant them too soon the wind or birds can ruin them.
I live in Southern Germany.
AnswerHi Nuria,
Your weather in Southern Germany looks very similar to ours here in the Pacific Northwest here in the U.S. Your outdoor flytraps are probably just fine.
If you want to start your flytraps seeds do it indoors in a bright window, or under fluorescent lights. Then you can move them outside in the spring. If birds are a problem you may need to put up bird netting. We've had problems off and on, and they can be very pesky. There's also a very clever device sold here in the U.S. that may be available in Europe. It's a motion activated sprinkler called a Scarecrow.
