QuestionI went to your site a few times and saw many kinds of beautiful hybrids (some that are just created). How do I create hybrids just like that? How do you do it? I am sure that it is not just easily pollinating one plant from another plant.
AnswerHi Jake,
Actually, it is. You have to have two plants of the same genus such as two Sarracenia, two Nepenthes etc... The hard part is growing the seeds since it take about 5 years to get a mature plant from seed. You also need to learn what the floral parts look like so you are transferring pollen to the correct place. Also, Nepenthes are male and female, so you have to have two plants of the opposite gender. (Gee, this conversation is getting sketchy. :) ) What you need to do is get a book that has diagrams and flower photos that show this process. Although the book I'm going to recommend isn't one of my favorites for growing information, it does have good diagrams on pollination. It's "Carnivorous Plants of the World" by James and Patricia Pietropaolo. If you go on Amazon you can find it fairly cheap.
Good Growing!
