Question
white dots on L Cypres
"I'm in Northern Virginia and have some 8 year old Leyland Cypress trees with both bagworms (which I am spraying with Sevin) and these white, waxy looking dots on the very tip of the needles. I attached a picture.
What are the white dots?
I have not found any descriptions of disease, fungus, or parasites that cause this. Do you know what it is, how serious it is and how to treat it?
Thank you!"
AnswerSorry about the problem with the attachment of pictures but glad you hung in there. These look the cones of Leyland cypress. Usually not this many but sometimes when a tree is stressed it will produce a large number of cones. Cone production also varies greatly form year to year so it well maybe just one of those heavy producing years. Nothing to worry about. Here is a web link to a picture of Leyland cones. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hedgerowmobile/219376304/
