pine tree bagworms

Question
I have a line of young pine trees. about 2 weeks ago I noticed one was almost dead. didnt know what was killing it until tonight. i believe the tree will not survive. about 5 trees over tonight, i discovered a bagworm on another tree. i picked it off and threw it away. Should I burn the tree that is almost destryoed. will that stop them from going to the other trees. I dont want to lose my trees. help please

Answer
This does not sound like bagworms. These insects feed on the foliage but this will take some time to completely eat all the needles. IF the needles are still on the tree and they are brown or red it sounds like maybe a bark beetle that has killed the trees. IF the trees are still green and the needles are being eaten I would treat the tree with an insecticide called Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect control. This is applied to the soil around the tree and the roots will carry it to the twigs, branches killing the insects that feed on the leaves. IF the trees are small enough to reach I would spray the trees with an insecticide called Orthene. This is a contact insecticide and will kill the feeding insects. Without further information that is about all I can suggest.

IF the trees are dead I would remove them from the site to keep the bark beetles from spreading.
