QuestionI took a baby pine tree from the wild, penna. mountains, planted it in a large pot with miracle grow soil. It did great for a year, then i transported it to texas in back of my truck. It appeared to be getting wind burned? while in transit. Within a a week or so after arriving in texas, all the needles turned brown and fell off. Is the tree dead? I checked a small branch and it is rubbery which indicated to me there is still life. Did the wind and sun kill it in travel? Any information will be appreciated.
AnswerYes wind and heat will kill a pine when it is transported uncovered. You can try planting it out but the chances are low it will survive. If it were me I would try since you have gone to this much trouble thus far.
Dig the hole twice the size of the pot and fill with good top soil or potting soil (plant so that the top of the soil in the pot is the same level as the ground) and mulch around the tree with pine straw not more than 3 inches deep ant not piled up on the trunk. and water if it does not rain.
